Quick Start

Installing on Windows

  1. Download the AetherVPN installer from our download page.
  2. Run the installer with administrator privileges (required for WireGuard tunnel and firewall rules).
  3. Launch AetherVPN. The app will generate your Curve25519 keypair automatically and store it in Windows DPAPI.
  4. Enter your 16-digit Account ID (from your purchase confirmation) in the Account tab.
  5. Click Authenticate to register your device and receive your server fleet directory.
  6. Select a server from the Servers tab and click Connect.

If you don't have WireGuard installed, AetherVPN will use the bundled wireguard.exe. You can also install it from wireguard.com/install.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to provide an email address?

No. Your account is a randomly generated 16-digit token. We never ask for your email, name, or phone number. Payments are processed by Stripe — we only see the subscription status, not your card details.

What happens if the VPN tunnel drops?

The Windows Firewall kill switch immediately blocks all outbound traffic except to the VPN endpoint, preventing IP leaks. The auto-reconnect watchdog then attempts to re-establish the tunnel with exponential backoff (1s, 2s, 4s, 8s, 15s). After 5 failed attempts, it stops and alerts you in the diagnostics log.

How many devices can I use?

Free tier: 1 device. Plus/Founder tier: 5 devices. You can view and revoke devices from the Account tab in the desktop app. Revoking a device immediately removes its WireGuard peer from all edge nodes.

My connection says "Error" — what do I do?

1. Check the Diagnostics tab for error messages (private keys and domains are redacted).
2. Try a different server from the Servers tab.
3. Click Probe Latencies to find the fastest reachable server.
4. Export diagnostics (Diagnostics tab → Export) and send to support@aethervpn.network.

Can I import my existing WireGuard configuration?

Yes. Go to the Servers tab, click Add Server, and paste your .conf file content into the Import field. AetherVPN will parse the endpoint, public key, and DNS settings. Imported private keys are stored in the DPAPI vault, not in plaintext.

Does AetherVPN log my browsing history?

No. We do not log, store, or monitor the websites you visit, DNS queries you make, or IP addresses you connect to. Edge nodes run with volatile zero-logging rules. See our privacy policy for the full technical details.
